Founded in 1906, the Associated Humane Societies is New Jersey’s largest animal sheltering system. We are dedicated to providing a safe haven, quality care, and sanctuary for stray, homeless, and abandoned animals until they find the loving forever homes they deserve.
For over a century, we have served as a vital safety net for animals in need. From our humble beginnings in Newark to the addition of our Popcorn Park Animal Refuge in 1977, we have continuously grown to provide rescue, rehabilitation, and advocacy for domestic pets, exotic animals, and wildlife alike.
We operate four shelters across Essex, Ocean, Monmouth, and Cumberland counties, ensuring every animal receives professional, compassionate care. Our dedicated teams focus on the wellbeing of our residents, offering medical evaluations, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services to help them thrive while they wait for their new families.
Adoption is a joyful journey, and we are committed to making it a successful partnership between you and your new pet. Our team ensures that every animal is medically cleared, microchipped, and ready to become a cherished member of your household. We believe that thoughtful matching helps create lasting bonds that enrich both your life and the life of your rescued friend.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to explore our list of adoptable pets at our various New Jersey locations or learn more about how you can support our mission by volunteering, fostering, or visiting our Popcorn Park refuge. Connect with us online or at one of our shelters to begin the rewarding process of bringing a loving animal into your home.
