Founded in 1941, SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to protecting the health and welfare of homeless companion animals in the greater Princeton area and beyond. We are passionate about creating a brighter future for every animal that enters our care.
Our journey began with Dr. Cornelia Jaynes, a pioneering veterinarian who provided care for stray animals regardless of a client's ability to pay. Following her legacy, we have grown into the region's largest shelter, operating from our current facility in Skillman, New Jersey, since 2015. We are proud to maintain a no-kill status, ensuring that every adoptable pet receives the support they need to flourish.
As an independent shelter not funded by local, state, or federal tax dollars, we rely on the generosity of our community to provide comprehensive care. Our facility offers a safe haven for approximately 100 animals at a time, where we focus on rehabilitation through our core programs of rescue, shelter, health, spay/neuter, foster, and adoption. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to provide a high standard of care for every cat and dog while they wait for their new families.
Adoption is a beautiful partnership, and we believe in making matches that last a lifetime. Our team of specialists, including our Canine Compatibility Consultant, works hard to understand each pet's unique personality and charm. We invite you to join our family of adopters, fosters, and volunteers who turn love into a life-changing impact for animals in need.
