Bergen County Animal Shelter
Our Mission
At the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, we are dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of all animals, reuniting lost pets with their owners, and supporting our community in responsible pet ownership.
Who We Are
Opened in 1979 in Teterboro, NJ, our center has served as a pillar of animal welfare for over 49 towns in Bergen and Hudson counties. We take pride in our commitment to animals, having earned our No-Kill designation under the guidelines of the Asilmar Accords in 2015.
How We Help
Our facility functions as a bustling center of care, housing up to 90 dogs and 350 cats, supported by an active network of volunteers, foster families, and rescue partners. Beyond the shelter walls, we provide comprehensive animal control services, disaster response, and a robust Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) program to manage feral cat populations and protect animal welfare.
The Adopter Connection
We believe every pet deserves a loving family, and our goal is to match you with a companion who fits your unique lifestyle. Our team works hard to understand the personalities of the animals in our care, and our adoption counselors are here to help guide you through the process, ensuring a joyful and lasting transition for both you and your new pet.
Start Your Journey Today
Whether you are looking to adopt a dog, cat, or small animal, we invite you to view our available companions on our website or visit us in person. You can even jump-start the process by printing and submitting your adoption application online. Please join our community on Facebook to see daily updates, discover your new best friend, and celebrate the many happy endings we create together every day.
