West Milford Animal Shelter
Our Mission
The West Milford Animal Shelter Society (WMASS) is a dedicated 100% volunteer organization focused on finding permanent, loving homes for companion animals while promoting the humane treatment of all pets. Through direct action and education, we strive to teach an appreciation for the human/animal bond and help our furry friends find the second chances they deserve.
A History of Care
Founded in 1976 to address the urgent need for a structured adoption program, we have proudly served our community for decades as an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit. In 1994, we earned full authority to operate the municipal shelter facility on a strictly volunteer basis, ensuring that compassionate, professional care remains our top priority every single day.
How We Operate
As a unique municipal facility run entirely by volunteers, we are committed to providing outstanding veterinary care and daily attention to every animal in our shelter. We have invested in state-of-the-art kennel renovations and spacious cat suites to ensure our residents stay comfortable, safe, and happy while they wait for their forever families. We rely on the generosity of our community to maintain these high standards and continue our mission of providing a clean, nurturing environment.
The Adopter Connection
Our volunteers work hard to match adoptable animals with the perfect homes, ensuring a smooth and joyful transition for both pets and their new owners. Whether you are looking for a cat, dog, or other companion animal, we invite you to experience the personality and love our animals have to offer. We are here to guide you through our adoption process, which prioritizes the long-term well-being of every animal.
