Welcome to Animal Humane New Mexico, a managed admissions shelter dedicated to improving the lives of homeless and at-risk animals across our vibrant state. Located in the heart of New Mexico, we are a proud private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that believes every adoptable animal deserves a loving home and every home deserves the joy a pet brings.
Since our founding in 1965, we have become the state's leading animal welfare organization, helping over 10,000 dogs and cats every year. Our mission is clear: to support and enhance the lives of cats and dogs through comprehensive sheltering, adoptions, humane education, and veterinary services. We are committed to a policy of never euthanizing animals based on age or length of stay, proudly achieving a 100% re-homing rate for healthy pets since 2010.
At the core of our organization are our values: Compassion, Respect, Accountability, Quality, Safety, and Stewardship. We envision a society where every animal is treated with the respect and kindness they deserve, working tirelessly to build that ethos in our community.
Our services extend beyond the shelter's walls. From our donor-subsidized veterinary clinic, which provides essential care to low-income pet owners, to our robust Pet Resource Center, designed to keep pets happy and healthy with vital resources, we strive to support both animal and human members of our community. Our innovative behavior support programs and comprehensive humane education initiatives also reflect our commitment to fostering a better understanding between pets and their humans.
Join us in our lifesaving mission by adopting a pet, volunteering, fostering, or supporting our Thrift Shop, which has been generating funds for our cause since 1960. Together, we can create a future where every animal finds a loving home and receives the care they need.
