Española Humane’s mission is to improve the lives of animals in underserved communities. We go where the need is greatest to ensure every animal receives the care and dignity they deserve.

We are a dedicated non-profit committed to filling critical gaps in veterinary and animal welfare services across Rio Arriba County and beyond. By providing free spay and neuter surgeries and accessible wellness care, we strive to keep pets in loving homes and strengthen the bond between animals and their families.
How We Care
We operate as an open-door shelter, welcoming animals in need without charge. Our facility provides a safe environment for thousands of dogs, cats, and even pocket pets, while our extensive foster network helps animals decompress and thrive outside of the shelter walls until they find their perfect match.

We believe in thoughtful, joyful partnerships, which is why we guide you through the process of finding a best friend who fits your unique lifestyle. To help you get off on the right paw, every adoption includes a wellness exam, core vaccinations, microchipping, and sterilization, along with one week of free professional training through GoodPup.
