Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary strives to be a leader in the care and placement of cats and dogs as animal companions in nurturing homes. We are dedicated to seeking permanent, responsible homes for abandoned pets while promoting humane principles and behavior.
Founded in 1996, we began as a group of animal lovers in the Las Cruces area who envisioned a sanctuary modeled after the nation's largest no-kill facilities. Over the past 30 years, we have grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides a sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals, ensuring they are treated with love and respect.
Located on three beautiful acres east of Las Cruces, our facility serves as a no-kill environment that includes a cattery, dog kennels, isolation units, and a play area. Because we are an independent nonprofit that does not receive government funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community through donations and our thrift store to maintain our operating budget and provide high-quality care.
When you choose to adopt from Safe Haven, you aren't just finding a companion—you are giving a pet a happy new life and creating space for another animal in need. We take pride in our commitment to health, ensuring all our adoptable pets are current on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and that our dogs are heartworm tested and micro-chipped.
We invite you to experience the joy of adoption by visiting our adoptable pets section or scheduling an appointment to meet your new best friend. If you cannot adopt, consider supporting our mission by volunteering your time or donating needed items to our thrift store. Together, we can build a community where every domestic animal is well cared for.
