Watermelon Mountain Ranch is dedicated to creating Happy Tails, Happy Hearts, and Happy Families by providing a safe, no-kill sanctuary where every animal who enters our doors finds love. We believe in building a future where every pet has a place to call home.
Our Story
Founded in 1996 by Lee and Sophia DiClemente, our organization began as a grassroots effort to address the urgent need for a no-kill shelter in New Mexico. What started with a small group of passionate volunteers has since grown into the state's largest no-kill shelter, helping save over 200,000 animals since our inception.
How We Care
Our work spans a 10-acre main campus in Rio Rancho, which includes catteries, dog cottages, a retirement village for senior dogs, and a veterinary clinic. We utilize a robust network of foster homes and offsite adoption centers at local retailers to ensure every animal receives personalized attention and socialization. Through diverse initiatives like Molly’s Mercy Missions, we prioritize saving animals from euthanasia and providing them with the support they need to thrive.
