Our Mission
The Brooklyn Cat Cafe is a volunteer-driven community space dedicated to reducing cat homelessness through rescue, education, and outreach. As New York City’s only non-profit cat cafe, we work tirelessly to create a welcoming environment where people and cats can connect.
Our Story
Founded in 2007 by a group of passionate rescuers, the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC) was created to improve the lives of local homeless animals. We launched the cafe in 2016 in historic Brooklyn Heights to serve as a central meeting place for foster families, potential adopters, and rescuers to come together.
How We Care for Cats
We believe that every cat deserves a safe, loving start to their journey toward a permanent home. Our model thrives on our incredible foster network, which houses approximately 200 cats at any given time, alongside our cafe space where visitors can meet adoptable rescues face-to-face. By supporting rescuers and providing accessible veterinary services, we ensure that as many cats as possible get the care they need to thrive.
