The Ontario County Humane Society is dedicated to finding a loving, forever home for every pet that comes into our care. We believe in creating a stronger community where animals and the people who love them can thrive together through kindness and professional support.
Since our founding, we have served as a vital resource for homeless, abused, and neglected pets in Ontario County. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, our work is driven by a passionate team and a network of supporters who believe every animal deserves a second chance at happiness.
We operate the Happy Tails Animal Shelter, a no-kill facility in Canandaigua, as our primary hub for animal care. Beyond our facility walls, we prioritize animal well-being through innovative initiatives like our S.O.S. (Supporting Opportunities for Success) Program, which helps pets transition seamlessly between homes without the stress of shelter life whenever possible.
Adoption is a lifelong commitment, and our team is here to ensure that every placement is a perfect match for both you and your new companion. We take the time to get to know each resident’s unique personality, household preferences, and behavioral needs, ensuring they transition comfortably into their new lives. We consider our adopters partners in our mission, and we are committed to providing the guidance and medical support needed for a successful, joyful, and lasting relationship.
Whether you are looking to open your home to a new best friend or want to support our mission, we invite you to connect with us. Visit us at our Canandaigua shelter to meet our current residents, browse our adoptable pets online, or reach out to our team to discover how you can make a life-changing difference for an animal in need today.
