Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association is a dedicated 501c3 non-profit organization serving as an open-admission shelter for Madison County, New York, and surrounding municipalities. Our mission is to provide the highest quality care and compassion to the lost, homeless, and surrendered animals who come through our doors each year.
Since our founding, we have acted as a cornerstone for animal welfare, striving to lead our community in creating a more humane society. Beyond sheltering, we actively promote responsible pet ownership through humane education programs, spay and neuter assistance, and specialized support for veterans and low-income families.
As an open-admission facility, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where animals receive love and compassion while they await their forever families. Our shelter is operated by a dedicated team and board, ensuring that every animal—whether they arrived as a stray or a surrender—is treated with the dignity they deserve.
Choosing to adopt means you are providing a loving home to an animal in need, which helps reduce the number of homeless pets and supports a sustainable approach to pet ownership. Our team works hard to enhance adoptability, ensuring that you find a companion who is just as loyal, loving, and wonderful as any pet you might find elsewhere. When you adopt, you aren't just getting a pet; you are making a positive difference in an animal's life and experiencing the joy of a lifelong bond.
We invite you to experience the warmth of our community firsthand by visiting us in Canastota. Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to learn more about our upcoming events and programs, we would love to connect with you.
