The Putnam Humane Society is dedicated to being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves, providing a safe haven and compassionate care for homeless, abused, and neglected animals. We advocate for our pets and promote humane awareness throughout our community.
Founded in 1957 by Marjorie Jenkins in a small barn, we have grown significantly to meet the needs of our pet population. Today, we operate from our facility on Old Route 6 in Carmel, proudly serving as a dedicated shelter for lost and stray dogs and providing a sanctuary for cats in need.
As a non-profit no-kill shelter, we provide a nurturing environment where animals receive the patience, medical treatment, nutrition, and socialization they require while awaiting their forever homes. We are fully committed to the long-term well-being of our residents, ensuring they receive the professional care necessary to thrive until they are ready for adoption.
Adoption is a joyful journey, and we work hard to ensure every pet finds the right match for their personality and needs. When you adopt from us, your new family member comes prepared for a healthy start, having received comprehensive veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, and microchipping.
Whether you are looking to adopt a new best friend or want to support our ongoing efforts, there are many ways to get involved. Please visit our available dogs and cats online, complete an application, or contact us at 845-225-7777 to learn more about how you can support our mission. We look forward to helping you welcome a new, cherished member into your family.
