The Heart of the Catskills Humane Society is dedicated to the mission of connecting every adoptable pet to a loving home. We believe in the power of second chances and are committed to caring for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Our story began in 1968 in Delhi, New York, when a group of concerned neighbors united to provide refuge for a local terrier and her puppies. From those humble roots in a repurposed sap house, we have grown into a nationally recognized organization driven by deep compassion for every animal entrusted to our care.
Today, we operate a shelter facility in Delhi where we prioritize the well-being and social confidence of our pets through enrichment, playgroups, and nature trail walks. Beyond our facility, we rely on a wonderful network of foster caregivers who provide temporary, loving home environments for kittens, nursing mothers, and shy pets who need extra TLC to blossom. Whether it is a senior pal or a working cat for your barn, we ensure every animal receives the nourishment and support they need.
We are proud of our thoughtful approach to adoption, which focuses on honoring the unique personality of each animal. By fostering strong relationships and utilizing our 'good citizenship' approach, we help our residents project their true selves so they can find the right family. We are here to support you in making a lifetime commitment to a new companion, ensuring a joyful and lasting partnership for years to come.
We invite you to visit our adoptable pets on Petfinder or come see us at our Delhi shelter or PetSmart adoption center in Kingston. Whether you are ready to adopt, volunteer, or join our community of supporters, we would love to connect with you. Visit us today to meet your new best friend.
