Our Mission
The Lakeshore Humane Society is a dedicated, all-volunteer organization committed to protecting the welfare of all animals and providing humane education to our community. We strive to provide compassionate care for animals in need while seeking to place them into the loving, forever homes they deserve.
A History of Care
Established in 1980 as the successor to the Dunkirk Humane Society, our organization has proudly served the north end of Chautauqua County for decades. While we have grown and evolved, our core purpose remains the same: preventing cruelty, relieving suffering, and fostering a community that values its animal companions.
How We Operate
We are a privately funded, all-volunteer non-profit operating out of our adoption center at 431 East Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. By housing a smaller number of animals at our center, we are able to provide specialized attention, ensuring we get to know each pet’s unique personality. All our residents are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, ensuring they are healthy and ready for their next chapter.
