The Lakeshore Humane Society is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to protecting the welfare of all animals and providing humane education to our community. We believe in creating a brighter future for every animal that comes through our doors.
Established in 1980 as a successor to the Dunkirk Humane Society, we have proudly expanded our mission to serve the entire north end of Chautauqua County. We remain a privately funded, volunteer-driven group that relies on the generous support of our community to provide medical care and loving attention to animals in need.
We operate an adoption center at 431 East Chestnut Street in Dunkirk, where our volunteers work daily to care for our residents. By housing our animals in a dedicated center, we get to know each pet’s unique personality, which helps us ensure they find the perfect environment to thrive. Our commitment includes a robust spay/neuter assistance program to help prevent pet overpopulation.
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to help you find your new best friend. Because our team spends significant time with each animal, we are able to facilitate thoughtful, successful matches that lead to lifelong bonds. Every animal in our care is spayed or neutered prior to adoption, ensuring they are healthy and ready to join your family.
We invite you to help make a difference by visiting our adoption center or joining us at our monthly meetings. Please browse our adoptable dogs and cats online or stop by during our open hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays to meet your potential companion. We look forward to welcoming you to the Lakeshore Humane Society family!
