Friends4PoundPaws, Inc.
Our Mission
Friends 4 Pound Paws, Inc. is dedicated to saving the forgotten animals of our community by providing a compassionate, no-kill shelter environment for dogs and cats in need. We believe that while saving one life may not change the world, for that one animal, the world changes forever.
Our Story
Founded in May 2011 by a group of concerned citizens, we began with a simple desire to give local pound dogs a second chance at life. What started with our first two rescues—Freddie the Chihuahua and Buella the pit bull—has since blossomed into an established shelter serving St. Lawrence County, New York.
How We Care
As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community through donations, grants, and dedicated volunteers to sustain our operations. Our facility in the Village of Gouverneur houses up to 40 cats and 6-10 dogs, while we continue to utilize foster homes when available to help animals transition to their forever families. We prioritize health by offering immediate veterinary checkups and ensuring all pets are spayed or neutered through our partnership with Northland Veterinary Hospital.
Your Adoption Journey
We are thrilled that you are considering opening your heart and home to one of our furry friends. Our team works hard to ensure every animal finds the perfect match, and we invite you to experience the joy of adoption by visiting our shelter. We appreciate your patience as our volunteers carefully review applications to ensure the best possible outcomes for our residents.

We invite you to come meet our adoptable cats and dogs in person at 55 Owl Road, Gouverneur, NY.
