Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation

Our Mission

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the bond between humans and companion animals through education, advocacy, and adoption. We believe that it is never too late for a second chance, and we work tirelessly to place every animal in our care into a loving forever home.

Who We Are

Formed 16 years ago after the Town eliminated the local shelter, SASF has grown into a leading 501(c)3 non-profit and no-kill facility serving the entire Township of Southampton. We proudly care for animals from our local community of 25 hamlets and villages, while also rescuing pets from dire situations across the country and the Caribbean.

How We Care

As an open-admission shelter, we serve as a vital stepping stone for homeless animals by providing comprehensive housing, nutritious food, medical treatment, and rehabilitation. Our dedicated team uses a prestigious training and behavior program to socialize and enrich the lives of our dogs, significantly increasing their adoptability. From veterinary evaluations to daily affection, we ensure each pet receives the support they need to thrive while awaiting their perfect match.

Find Your New Best Friend

Adoption is the beginning of a beautiful, lifelong partnership, and our team is committed to helping you find the companion that best fits your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a feline friend or a loyal pup, our counselors are here to guide you through the process with transparency and care. Behind every animal at SASF is a story of healing, and we invite you to be the next chapter in that journey.

Ready to Meet Your Match?

We are open seven days a week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and would love to welcome you to our facility at 102 Old Riverhead Rd West in Hampton Bays. You can explore our current adoptable pets on our website or call us at 631-728-7387 to learn more about our adoption process today.

10/11 - We hear so many misconceptions about black cats, but the only real misfortune is a cat being overlooked a loving home because of their color.  At just 1 year old, Sienna came to us as a stray, a homeless kitty looking for a little kindness and a second chance. And she’s making the most of it! This sweet girl loves attention, thrives on affection, and is happiest when she’s spending time with her people. She’s also great with kids and other cats, making her a pretty wonderful addition to the family. This Black Cat Awareness month, consider opening your heart to an overlooked resident. Her luck could change today and it all starts with an adoption application today. 🍀🐈‍⬛ What’s one thing you wish more people knew about black cats? 📍102 Old Riverhead Rd W, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 (631) 728-7387

10/9 - When Zuma’s Owner, a disabled veteran, became seriously ill and faced frequent hospitalizations and rehabilitation, one of his biggest worries was what would happen to his beloved dog. As his emotional support dog, Zuma means the world to him. Doug was even considering opting out of surgery because he couldn’t bear the thought of giving her up. That’s when our team stepped in. We welcomed Zuma into our shelter and promised to keep her safe, loved, and cared for while Doug focused on his recovery. The two were finally reunited. And the moment Zuma saw her dad again, it was as if no time had passed at all. Doug was also part of our Paws & Provisions program, which helps local families access pet food and supplies so financial hardship doesn’t mean having to say goodbye to a beloved pet. There is something incredibly special about the bond between a person and their dog. We are so grateful we could be their safe place during a difficult chapter  and even more grateful that this chapter ended with the reunion they both deserved.

10/7 - This National Pitbull Awareness month there is no better way to celebrate than opening your home to one of these deserving dogs that came from a cruelty case.  Moose & Clooney came to us through our Rescue Right Here Program after being taken in by the Nassau County SPCA following a cruelty case. They may feel a little shut down at times which is reasonable after the past they’ve been through and waiting for their happy ending for so long. They are both good with dogs, people and just need one chance.  These companions have SO much potential and are more than ready to discover this world with you. Please share, repost, comment, and help us get these two seen. The right person could be scrolling through your feed right now. 10/6 - ADOPTED🎉Kobe is a sweet 5 year old Havanese/Mix hoping for someone like you. He was recently surrendered after his owner could no longer care for him. He is a bit fearful in this new transition but has shown how gentle he is by wanting to be in the arms of our staff.  Kobe has shown nervousness around men and would love and thrive with a female adopter, where he can feel secure, build trust, and truly thrive. He is neutral with other dogs. If this sounds like you apply today at SASF.org or link in bio or consider sharing Kobe’s story. 10/5 - In honor of Animal Welfare Week, we were so proud to be part of an evening dedicated to something we all believe in: creating a better future for animals and having a community stand behind them.  Our hearts are full of gratitude to the @unitedanimalwelfaresociety for putting together such an incredible evening in support of SASF. For 26 years, United Animal Welfare Society and North Shore Veterinary Hospital have been an incredible veterinary resource for our community, and we’re so grateful for the compassion, partnership, and support they continue to give to animals and the people who care for them.  What made the evening especially meaningful was seeing so many members of our local rescue community come together to support SASF. We were honored to be joined by Huntington Shelter, @smithtownanimalshelter , @pawsofwar , @longislandbulldogrescue , @paws_li , @johncatguy , and so many other incredible advocates who continue to show up for animals across Long Island. From the conversations and connections to the incredible cocktails by @bubblybarli and delicious food from @eleganteating, it truly was an unforgettable evening and a beautiful reminder that rescue is stronger when we do it together. Thank you to everyone who came out, supported SASF, and continues to stand behind the animals in our care. If you missed this event, catch us for our Beach Bar Bash Oct 17th!

10/4 - We have a happy tail that proves shelter dogs are capable of incredible things! This past July, we posted Kreek after his owner suddenly showed up at our doors and surrendered him. Months later, he was selected as a FEMA rescue and search k-9 now on his way to becoming a service hero! Over the past few months, he has been making incredible progress in his training, developing specialized skills that go far beyond basic obedience—including scent detection, alerting, agility, direction and control, and working confidently around collapsed structures. His training will prepare him to help locate people who are trapped or buried during natural disasters, playing a vital role in search-and-rescue efforts when every second matters. We’re so proud of Kreek and grateful we could give him the safe haven he needed to find his next chapter. This is a beautiful reminder to never underestimate a shelter dog.  Join us in cheering on Kreek as he works toward becoming a rescue hero! ⛑️🐶

10/3 - Somewhere at our shelter, a black cat is still waiting for someone to stop and look a little closer. Black cats are so often overlooked, all because of old myths that should have been left behind years ago. In reality, they’ve long been seen as symbols of protection and security. For Black Cat Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the cats here at SASF who are often passed by and reminding everyone that there is so much more to discover beyond their color. 🐈‍⬛  🙏🏼Consider dropping a photo of your black cat in the comments and help us remind everyone just how special these babies are! 📍102 Old Riverhead Rd W, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 (631) 728-7387

9/30 - Meet Teddy, our newest Rescue Right Here pup. Teddy came to us from @nycacc , where he was waiting for someone to see him. Through our Rescue Right Here Program, we work to help ease overcrowding in municipal shelters across Long Island and give more deserving animals the opportunity to be seen, loved, and adopted. And Teddy is more than ready for his moment. At around 5 years old and 33 pounds, this sweet boy is gentle, affectionate, and absolutely loves to snuggle. We gave him a much-needed bath, a fresh haircut, and a little extra TLC and now he’s ready to show you just how special he is. Please consider applying to adopt Teddy or share his story so it reaches the person who may be looking for a dog exactly like him. 📍102 Old Riverhead Rd W, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 (631) 728-7387

9/29 - We’re so excited to introduce the newest faces of our Rescue Right Here Program!  At SASF, we believe some of the most meaningful rescues happen right here in our own community. Through Rescue Right Here, we prioritize helping municipal shelters across Long Island by giving animals helping ease overcrowding, and creating more opportunities for them to find the loving homes they deserve. That’s why we were so proud to step in and help our incredible partners at @islipanimals to help give these two special needs pets a chance.  Please meet Winslow, the most adorable 3 year old one eyed French Bulldog! He was found as a stray with a ruptured eye. He needed surgery to have his eye removed, but through it all, Winslow has remained the sweet, loving boy we know he is. Great with other dogs and would do best with adults.  Petunia is 2 years old and is deaf. She will need an extensive surgery that will cost over $8000, so if you are able to donate in any way we would be so grateful. Venmo: sasf_ You can be the first to apply for her when she is ready! She is great with kids and other dogs. Two special needs dogs. And two stories that are just getting started.  Change a life today by applying link or bio! 🙏🏼 📍 102 Old Riverhead Rd W, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 📞 (631) 728-7387

9/27 - When a storm rolls through, their needs don’t stop and neither does our care.  While the winds were high and rain downpoured, our staff is still here caring for every animal, and making sure they never have to face a difficult day alone. They still wait for their morning walks, their meals, their warm blankets, and the comfort from our staff reminding them they’re safe when the storm hits. Our work doesn’t stop with the animals inside our shelter, either. We continue caring for the feral cats in our community and welcoming stray pets who arrive at our doors looking for safety. And no matter what weather condition it is, we’ll keep showing up for them.  7 days a week. 365 days a year. This work takes a dedicated team and a community behind us, and every bit of support helps us continue being there for the animals who need us most.  Venmo: Sasf_ 💜Would you like to see more “day in the life” moments from our shelter team?
