The Dutchess County SPCA is dedicated to sheltering animals in need and securing permanent, loving homes for every pet in our care. We strive for a community where all animals are treated with compassion and respect.
Founded in 1871, we are one of the oldest SPCAs in the country and operate as an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. We are not a governmental agency, meaning we rely almost entirely on the private donations of kind supporters to fuel our mission of animal care.
We are a dedicated no-kill shelter, which means we never euthanize animals due to space constraints. By managing our capacity carefully, we ensure every cat, dog, and small mammal receives the proper care, space, and individual attention they deserve. Beyond our facility, we are proud to support families through community programs, including a pet food pantry, low-cost clinics, and veterinary financing options to keep pets in their homes whenever possible.
We believe that adopting a pet is the start of a beautiful, lifelong partnership. Our adoption process is designed to be thoughtful and supportive, helping our counselors match you with a companion who fits your unique lifestyle and environment. Because we know that a quiet shelter environment reduces stress, we utilize a pre-approved application process, allowing our staff to focus entirely on your needs once you arrive to meet your potential new family member.
Are you ready to find your new best friend? We invite you to view our available pets online and submit a general application to get started. You can also visit us at our Adoptions & Education Center in Hyde Park to learn more about our work and see how you can make a difference in the life of a shelter animal.
