ASPCA - 92nd Street

Our Mission

The ASPCA is dedicated to providing effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals across the United States. We work every day to ensure that vulnerable animals are protected, cared for, and given the opportunity to thrive in loving homes.

A Legacy of Compassion

Founded in 1866 as the first animal welfare organization in North America, the ASPCA has served as a leading voice for animals for 160 years. We tackle complex challenges by pioneering innovative programs, conducting animal welfare research, and advocating for laws that secure a more compassionate world for every creature.

Our Commitment to Care

Our approach to finding pets their forever homes is multifaceted and professional. Depending on the location, our work includes state-of-the-art shelter facilities with highly qualified veterinary and behavior teams, as well as extensive foster-based networks. By partnering with local agencies and leveraging foster homes, we give animals the time, space, and rehabilitation they need to prepare for their next chapter.

Finding Your Perfect Match

Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are committed to helping you find the right pet to join your family. Our team carefully reviews applications to ensure that both you and your potential companion are set up for a successful transition. Whether you are searching for a playful pup, an affectionate cat, or a senior friend, our bios and behavior counselors are here to help you make a lasting connection.

Start Your Journey Today

10/11 - The quirkier the pup, the better! One man's soft spot for pups with special needs 🧡 At Evan's house, every dog has a story. His first dog, Luna, arrived as a stray puppy and quickly moved in. Bert came after, recovering from serious injuries when Evan adopted him from a local shelter. It was his soft spot for dogs with special needs that led him to two ASPCA dogs, Gizmo and Eddie. Evan and his wife had been thinking about adopting a small dog when they came across Gizmo on the ASPCA website. The scruffy pup seemed like exactly the kind of laid-back companion they were looking for, and it didn't take long for him to become part of the family. His mitral valve disease, a heart condition that requires daily medication, might have deterred some, but for Evan, it made Gizmo all that much of a perfect match. After Gizmo, Evan wasn't actively looking for another dog until he saw Eddie's adoption profile online. Originally having come to the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center in Ohio with 34 other dogs as part of a suspected neglect case, it became clear that Eddie was not only hard of hearing, but also had a malformed and nonvisual eye, which was ultimately removed. Already drawn to overlooked animals, Evan noticed Eddie right away and decided to foster him. After about a week, it was clear that Eddie wasn't going anywhere, and he became the newest member of the pack! When Evan chose to adopt both Gizmo and Eddie, he freed up valuable space and resources at the shelter, giving even more animals a chance at rescue and rehabilitation. That's #TheRescueEffect. 9/19 - Many dogs suffering in puppy mills live in facilities licensed and overseen by the federal government. These dogs depend on the USDA to provide oversight and enforce basic standards of care. The reality is, time and time again, violations continue to persist. That's why we need Goldie's Act - federal legislation that would protect dogs in puppy mills by requiring the USDA to conduct better inspections of licensed facilities, provide lifesaving intervention for suffering animals and more. Make your voice heard this Puppy Mill Awareness Day and urge your members of Congress to support Goldie's Act by visiting aspca.org/GoldiesAct.
