Saving Lives, One Pet at a Time

The SPCA in Cattaraugus County is a dedicated, non-profit organization focused on saving the lives of stray, abandoned, and neglected pets. We are passionate about providing compassionate care and finding loving, permanent homes for the animals in our community.

Our History and Community Commitment

Founded in 1905, our organization has long served as a safe haven for animals in need. As the largest animal shelter in New York’s southern tier, we moved to our current 11-acre location in 1984, allowing us the space to provide better care and more resources for the pets that come through our doors.

Our Care Model

Our facility is designed with the well-being of our animals in mind, featuring 58 dog kennels and specialized rooms for our feline residents, including open cat rooms for play and socialization. We provide a medical and restricted area for individual treatment and recovery, ensuring every animal receives the care they need in a controlled environment. Beyond our shelter, we operate a foster care program that offers nurturing home environments for puppies, kittens, and animals requiring extra TLC.

Building Lifelong Friendships

We believe that adopting a pet is a joyful, life-changing decision that should be made with care. Our team is here to help you research which companion will best fit your family, and we encourage you to spend time at the shelter to let our animals get to know you. By working together, we ensure that every adoption is the start of a wonderful, lasting relationship.
