Humane Society of Yates County

Our Mission

The Shelter of Hope is a dedicated, no-kill shelter in the Finger Lakes region of New York, providing the best care possible to companion animals until they are welcomed into loving, forever homes.

We strive toward a vision where every animal in Yates County rests in a home without need or want.

Who We Are

As a private 501(c)(3) organization, we serve as a vital refuge for animals in our community. We believe that life can be complicated, and we offer a non-judgmental space for those who can no longer care for their pets, working hard to facilitate successful transitions.

How We Care

Our commitment to our residents is reflected in our 98.9% live release rate for 2025. We provide comprehensive medical care for every animal in our custody, including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, and essential treatments for parasites to ensure they are healthy and ready for adoption.

For those times when a pet needs extra support, we utilize a compassionate foster network, including our unique Foster to Adopt and Stray to Stay programs, ensuring every animal receives the individualized attention they deserve.

The Adopter Connection

We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, which is why we focus on thoughtful matching to ensure each animal’s personality and needs fit perfectly with your home environment. Our team is dedicated to guiding you through our adoption process, ensuring you feel confident and supported as you prepare to welcome a new member to your family.

9/15 - 🐾 HOME BEFORE HALLOWEEN: Getting to Know the Real Maura 🎃🏡 In the almost one year that Maura has been with us, we’ve learned something really important: sometimes, when a dog has been in a shelter for a long time, it’s easy to make assumptions based on what we see in that environment. And some of the assumptions we made about Maura may not have told her whole story. So we decided to slow down, take a fresh look, and give Maura the chance to show us who she really is — and what makes her shine. ❤️ One of the biggest things we’ve been exploring is how Maura feels about other dogs. And guess what? Maura CAN be compatible with other dogs! 🐶💕 We’ve been carefully introducing her to different dogs, watching her body language, letting her set the pace, and learning more with every interaction. Every dog is different, and compatibility will always depend on the individual dogs involved — but we are LOVING what we’re seeing from her so far. Seeing Maura play, loosen up, and simply get to be a dog has been pretty special. 🥹 After almost a year, we don’t want Maura’s story to be defined by assumptions. We want it to be defined by who she is showing us she can be. And we have a feeling there’s still so much more to discover. ❤️ 🎃 Our goal is still the same: Home Before Halloween. Help us get Maura’s real story out there. Share her. Talk about her. And maybe, somewhere out there, the person who has been waiting for her will finally see her. https://www.yateshumane.org/dog-adopter-survey #HomeBeforeHalloween #MeetMaura #AdoptMaura #AdoptDontShop #ShelterDogs #SecondChances #RescueDog #AdoptLocal
