Potsdam Humane Society Inc.
Our Mission
The Potsdam Humane Society operates a dedicated not-for-profit animal shelter committed to providing compassionate care and protection to animals in need. We work tirelessly to return lost pets to their families and ensure every adoptable animal finds a loving forever home.
Our History and Community
Founded in 1957, we have served Potsdam and 12 surrounding townships for more than 67 years. Our mission is deeply rooted in our community, as we believe the kindness extended to animals inevitably enriches our lives in immeasurable ways.
How We Care for Animals
We pride ourselves on being a shelter where healthy, adoptable animals are given the best possible chance to find a new family. Our facility is designed to separate healthy animals from others, and we are constantly upgrading our standards to ensure the highest levels of comfort and enrichment for every resident. By prioritizing spaying, neutering, and medical attention, we take a proactive, responsible approach to animal welfare.
Finding Your Perfect Companion
We believe that adopting a pet is a joyful partnership that changes lives for the better. When you visit our shelter, our goal is to help you find the ideal match for your family, ensuring a successful transition for both you and your new furry friend. We also provide ongoing support and resources to help you feel confident as you welcome your new companion home.
Join Our Mission
We invite you to experience the difference our animals make firsthand. Please visit our Adopt A Pet page to browse our current listings, or stop by our facility on Madrid Avenue to meet your new best friend. Your support—whether through adoption, volunteering, or donations—is what allows us to continue our long tradition of care for the animals we all love.
