The Tri-Lakes Humane Society is dedicated to advocating for the humane treatment of animals, providing care for those in need, and reuniting lost pets with their families. We believe in being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Our journey began in 1942 when a group of caring teenagers started the Adirondack Animal Welfare Society, using a bicycle and cart to transport animals for veterinary care. Over the decades, we have grown into a 501(c)3 non-profit shelter, evolving from a simple doghouse to the dedicated facility we operate today on George LaPan Highway in Saranac Lake.
As a proud no-kill facility, we serve our local communities of Tupper Lake, Lake Placid, and Saranac Lake with love and compassion. Our shelter provides a safe haven for 300 to 400 animals each year, featuring indoor space, outdoor fenced dog yards, a woodland walking trail, and an enclosed cat porch for fresh air and enrichment.
We believe that every pet deserves a loving home where they can thrive. By getting to know each animal's unique personality and needs, we work hard to create lasting, joyful bonds between our rescued companions and their new forever families. Whether you are ready to adopt or interested in fostering, your support helps us continue providing a high standard of care for these deserving animals.
We invite you to visit us in Saranac Lake to meet our current residents waiting for their second chances. You can view our available animals on our website, fill out an adoption application, or learn more about how to support our work through volunteering and donations. We look forward to welcoming you into our community of animal lovers.
