Animal Care Centers of NYC - Staten Island
A Compassionate Mission for Every Animal
Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) is dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing a safe, compassionate refuge for animals in need. We believe in a future where every pet has a loving home, and every home that wants one has a pet.
Our History and Community Commitment
Since our founding in 1995, we have grown into a vital resource serving all five boroughs, including Staten Island. As New York City’s only open-admissions shelter, we welcome every animal that comes through our doors, regardless of their background or condition.
How We Provide Care
Our organization is powered by a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers working tirelessly to ensure the well-being of over 15,000 animals each year. We operate as a full-scale shelter that integrates medical care, behavior training, and foster placements alongside community outreach programs to support pet owners. We also collaborate with national organizations and local New Hope partners to expand our reach and impact.
Your Role as a Partner
Adoption is a joyful, life-changing journey that starts with a meaningful connection. We take great care in matching animals with their perfect families, and our team is here to support you through the process of finding your new companion. By adopting, you aren't just bringing home a pet—you are becoming a hero in the story of an animal’s second chance.

10/11 - Update: Chip has been placed with a rescue group ❤️❤️❤️❤️Chip 265871 is a sweet 7lbs, 8 year old, man who is so scared in the shelter. We all try our best to make his time here as comfortable as possible, but the shelter is not a home. After just a minute away from the noise Chip cuddled up for some pets and soon stopped shaking. He then ate his medication for the respiratory infection he has been fighting. Chip is available for adoption at the Manhattan location of @nycacc . #adoptdontshop #shelterdog #shelterveterinarian #sheltermedicine #adoptme

10/11 - 🩷Mocha Raspberry🩷 (261405) from Manhattan @nycacc https://nycacc.app/browse/261405 🚨Mocha Raspberry is AT RISK 🚨 This 5-year-old cutie was brought in as a stray in August and has been patiently waiting for over 70 days. Mocha Raspberry is a petite, compact 38-lb lowrider gal with a BIG personality! And let me tell you, this girl is FUNNY. Her goofy little personality had me laughing from the moment I met her. She’s full of love, life, curiosity, and wiggles! She’s such a social, happy little sweetheart that you can’t help but smile when you’re around her. ❤️ She’s also a smarty-pants! She knows several cues, including sit, down, and rollover. She used to stay in a top kennel and had no issues being picked up by staff. Sadly, Mocha Raspberry is now listed AT RISK. After more than 70 days of waiting, she’s begun showing signs of kennel stress and behavioral deterioration. And I can’t blame her. She’s been waiting far too long.😞 Behind that kennel stress is the same funny, wiggly, affectionate little girl who made me laugh the first time I met her. She just needs a chance to get out, decompress, and finally feel safe and loved in a home of her own. Mocha has shown some reactivity toward neighboring dogs, so ACC recommends a single-pet home where she can be the one and only princess. 👑 She’s available only through ACC’s New Hope partners. If interested in fostering/adopting, please fill out the prescreener form: https://forms.gle/ozHex3uqvNkQt2dq9 Mocha Raspberry is waiting at Manhattan ACC! #shelterdog #nycacc #adoptdontshop #share #cutedog

10/10 - Shortbread 267020 is a really sweet cat who came into the shelter so emaciated, dehydrated and anemic that she didn’t have a lot of energy. After a little more than a week she has gained 0.5 lb and is doing great. Shortbread’s anemia will take a little longer to recover but she seems to be on her way. She has made eating her full time job. This lady is waiting for her new home at the Manhattan location of @nycacc #adoptme #sheltermedicine #shelterveterinarian #sheltercat #adoptdontshop

10/9 - Stormi wants to be in the middle. The middle of what? Doesn’t matter. Gallantly reaching his paws to tap my arm as I walked by or playfully digging in the corner of his condo to mirror his neighbor, Stormi brings a notably puppy-cat like energy to the room and we love it. Big on greetings but decidedly less interested in more traditional cat-style follow throughs, Stormi wasn’t particularly interested in pets but let me know he wanted to play. Carrying his toy collection around his condo in his mouth, he paused because he was completely enthralled by a little rope I offered. Holding it in his mouth as he shook his head like a little dog, he initiated a game of tug of war that felt very dog-like. It’s just that Stormi’s a cat. A young, playful, and exceedingly bright little cat. He’s someone who will definitely benefit from an experienced and patient family who can offer puzzles, toys, and playtime befitting such a fun and energetic companion. Come to the Manhattan Care Center and meet him today. ID: 264973 https://nycacc.app/browse/264973 #boroughbred #nycacc #adoptdontshop #catrescue #foster

10/8 - Twinkle Toes (246702) is adoptable from Queens ACC! Twinkle Toe’s bio: https://nycacc.app/#/browse/246702 Since Twinkle Toes is a longstay, she has reduced adoption fees! Twinkle Toes is more than ready to make her way home! ✨ This social butterfly is the best of both worlds: she can keep up on a hike, then happily curl up on the couch for a cozy afternoon with her people. She loves showing off her sit, parading her favorite bone around, and making new friends along the way. Even a rainy day doesn’t dampen her spirits. After 146 days, we think it’s time for this sweet girl to twinkle her way out of the shelter and into the spotlight of a forever home! #nycacc #boroughbred #QueensACC

10/8 - We were told that T. Rex “is very loving, just shy” so it makes sense that he’s the affectionate star of the show here at the Staten Island Care Center, even if he isn’t always sure he wants to be. Stretching a little paw out of his cubby and halfway coming out to nuzzle into my hand, T. Rex quickly retreated to sit down to reflect. Brought to us in August, making sense of the Care Center has come in steps, but T. Rex is hoping that you’ll be open to going at his pace. In his previous home, T. Rex enjoyed playing gently and was a friendly little lapcat. He’s waiting for a second chance at the Staten Island Care Center. 10/7 - Rogue (254316) is adoptable from Manhattan ACC! Rogue’s bio: https://nycacc.app/#/browse/254316 For over 150 days, sweet 12 year old Rogue has been waiting at the shelter, quietly hoping someone will finally notice the hidden gem right in front of them. She may have gone a little rogue in the shelter system, overlooked despite all the love she has to give. Once she knows you, Rogue will lean in for affection, flash her adorable smile, and happily ask for a few more pets. She is gentle, affectionate, smart, and still so eager to learn and connect with someone special. After more than 150 days of waiting, could you be the person who finally sees Rogue and gives this beautiful girl the home she has been hoping for? Thank you @nrmnyc for the beautiful footage of Rogue! #nycacc #boroughbred #ManhattanACC
