Last Hope Inc.
Our Mission
Since 1981, Last Hope, Inc. has been dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of stray, abandoned, and death-due pound animals on Long Island. We strive to provide a brighter future for every animal that comes into our care.
Our Story
Founded 45 years ago as a two-person effort, Last Hope has grown into a community-driven organization powered by over 600 volunteers. Our mission remains rooted in the belief that every animal deserves a loving, responsible home, and we work tirelessly to address the root causes of pet overpopulation through education and advocacy.
How We Care
We provide a safe, nurturing environment for our rescues at our Wantagh Adoption Center, which houses both cats and dogs under one roof. Our commitment to health and wellness is paramount; every animal receives a thorough veterinary check and is spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Beyond our facility, we are proud to support the community through our signature Fix-A-Feral program and various veterinary assistance initiatives.
Your Partner in Adoption
We believe that successful adoptions are built on understanding and patience. Our dedicated team performs temperament evaluations to help ensure every match is a thoughtful one, creating a lasting bond between you and your new companion. When you adopt from Last Hope, you are gaining a partner committed to the long-term well-being of your new family member.
Join Our Mission
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to visit our adoption center in Wantagh or browse our available animals online. You can also make a difference by becoming a member, volunteering your time, or supporting our various community programs.

9/29 - Say hello to Frankie💙🐾 Frankie has been in our program for almost 1.5 years and has been patiently waiting for someone to notice him. He’s on special food and meds for his IBD & needs a patient owner who can handle what comes with this. He is extremely well behaved, lovable, social, and gentle. He actively seeks out attention and wants to be loved so bad. His brothers were adopted such a long time ago & it’s truly his turn. Please don’t let Frankie be left behind. He’s too sweet for the shelter life - he needs a home.🤍 #tuxedocats #ibdcats #fureverhome #specialneedscats #adoptdontshop
