SPCA Serving Erie County - Erie County SPCA Harlem Road Shelter

Our Mission

At the SPCA Serving Erie County, our mission is to create a more humane community through education, by rescuing and protecting animals, and by deeply nurturing the bond between animals and people.

We are dedicated to a vision where every animal is treated with compassion and respect, transforming lives throughout Erie County and beyond.

A History of Compassion

Founded in 1867, we are proud to be the second-oldest humane society in the country. While our efforts have evolved from assisting working animals on the Erie Canal to supporting the beloved pets and wildlife of today, our core commitment to providing care to those in need has never wavered.

How We Help

We provide a safe haven and comprehensive care for animals who have nowhere else to turn, assisting over 12,000 animals annually. As an independent non-profit, we rely entirely on the support of our community rather than tax dollars to fund our rescue, medical, and educational programs.

Beyond our shelter walls, we offer vital resources like the Lipsey Veterinary Clinic, a Pet Food Pantry, and behavior support services designed to keep pets and their families together.

Your Adoption Journey

We are deeply committed to finding loving, responsible homes for our animals and strive to make the best match for every adopter. Our counselors are here to have open, private conversations about your lifestyle and preferences to ensure a joyful, long-lasting partnership.

When you adopt from us, you receive a pet who has received a physical exam, spay/neuter surgery, and essential vaccinations, setting you both up for a successful life together.

Meet Your New Best Friend

Are you ready to find your perfect match? We invite you to explore our available animals online or visit our West Seneca adoption center to meet the wonderful pets currently waiting for their forever homes. Together, we can save lives and build a more compassionate future.
