PAWS of Hertford County is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to bringing hearts together to provide animal welfare and security. We envision a community where responsible actions lead to fewer homeless dogs and cats, ensuring a brighter future for every creature.
Founded in 2006 by a dedicated group of citizens, PAWS emerged from a shared commitment to move beyond wishing for change and instead taking active steps to help the vulnerable animals in our county. Over the last decade, we have grown from a small group of volunteers into a vital community organization, saving thousands of animals and providing them with the second chance they deserve.
As a volunteer-based organization, we manage operations at our shelter facility in Winton, NC, while also utilizing a network of foster homes to provide specialized care and socialization for animals in need. We are committed to transparency in our care, ensuring all our adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and thoroughly prepared for their new lives. Our work is powered entirely by the passion of our volunteers and the generous support of our community.
We believe that every adoption is the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Our adoption process is designed to ensure a perfect match, providing you with a companion who fits seamlessly into your life while giving a deserving animal a loving, permanent home. By taking the time to understand both the pet and the prospective owner, we create lasting bonds that enrich the lives of everyone involved.
We invite you to be a part of our success stories by exploring our current adoptable residents or visiting us by appointment. Whether you are looking for a new best friend, wish to volunteer, or want to support our spay and neuter initiatives, your involvement makes a tangible difference in Hertford County.
