Asheville Humane Society

A Compassionate Connection

Asheville Humane Society is dedicated to building a supportive community that positively impacts both pets and people. We believe that every animal deserves a life worth living, and our mission is to ensure they receive the care and love they truly deserve.

Our History and Community Commitment

Since 1984, we have served as a lifeline for animals throughout Buncombe County. As the region's only open-admission shelter, we face challenges head-on to provide care for every animal in need, ensuring our community remains a humane place for all creatures.

How We Care

We take a holistic approach that goes far beyond traditional sheltering, applying The Five Domains of animal welfare to ensure every pet's physical and emotional needs are met. Our work combines a dedicated Adoption Center with extensive community solutions, including behavior support and resources that help keep pets and their families together.

Your Perfect Partner

We believe in love at first sight, but we also prioritize finding the right match for your unique lifestyle. Our hands-on adoption counseling process considers personality, behavior, and your home environment to ensure that your new family member is the perfect fit. When you adopt from us, you aren't just gaining a pet; you are building a lasting, joyful partnership.

Join Us

Ready to meet your match? We invite you to view our available dogs, cats, and small animals online or visit our Adoption Center in person. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or simply learn more, we are excited to welcome you into our community of animal lovers.
