The Watauga Humane Society promotes animal welfare by providing services to improve the lives of companion animals and the people who love them. We are dedicated to our vision of a community with no more homeless pets and the end of euthanasia for healthy and adoptable animals.
Formed on December 12, 1969, our organization has been saving lives for more than 50 years. Over the decades, we have grown to meet the evolving needs of Watauga County, including our 2011 merger with Animal Care and Control and the construction of the Irma Baker Lyons Adoption Center.
We maintain a no-kill status, providing a safe harbor for stray, abandoned, and unwanted animals until they find their forever homes. Our state-of-the-art facility features dedicated spaces for cats and dogs, including group housing, outdoor play yards, and walking trails. While they wait for you, our staff and volunteers provide quality care, medical services, and daily enrichment to ensure every animal feels loved.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to help you find the perfect companion for your lifestyle. We invite you to visit our center to interact with our animals and speak with our knowledgeable staff, who are committed to making thoughtful, lasting matches. We view every adoption as a new chapter and a second chance for our furry friends.
Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to explore our low-cost spay/neuter services, we welcome you to get involved. Please visit us at 312 Paws Way in Boone to meet your new best friend or check out our adoptable animals online today. Your support helps us continue our mission of hope and compassion for every animal in our care.
