Our Mission
The Yancey County Humane Society is dedicated to providing shelter and care for homeless, injured, and neglected animals through adoption, community outreach, and compassionate support. We envision a community where all companion animals live free from suffering, valued by responsible and loving guardians.
Building a Better Future
As a privately owned, non-partisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we serve our community with fiscal transparency and a deep commitment to animal welfare. Our greatest achievement to date is the launch of our own on-site, low-cost spay and neuter clinic, which allows us to provide essential surgical services to our shelter residents and the wider community.
Our Care Model
Our shelter facility is a place of hope, nestled under Appalachian peaks and alongside the Cane River. While our team provides high-quality care within our facility, we also rely on a dedicated network of foster families to bridge the gap for animals who need extra socialization, care, or a nurturing environment while they wait for their forever homes.
