Orange County Animal Services

Our Mission

Orange County Animal Services is dedicated to helping both pets and people in our community through a proactive, positive approach to animal welfare. We work every day to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of humans, pets, and the community as a whole.

Our Commitment to the Community

Located in Chapel Hill, our shelter serves as a vital resource for domestic stray and unhoused animals from Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, and unincorporated areas of Orange County. We strive to address the challenge of pet overpopulation by delivering integrated, cost-effective services that keep pets with their families whenever possible.

How We Provide Care

We are a socially conscious animal community that creates the best outcomes for all animals through a blend of high-quality shelter care and a robust foster program. Our team works alongside dedicated volunteers and rescue partners to ensure that every animal receives the attention and support they need while awaiting their forever home.

Adopting a new best friend is a joyful partnership that begins with finding the perfect match. We are here to support you throughout the process, offering guidance, training resources, and the transparency you need to feel confident in your decision to open your heart and home to an animal in need.

9/21 - 🐾 Shelter life can be tough, but monitored playgroups help! These groups reduce stress/anxiety for shelter dogs and help them burn off pent-up energy. These sessions also act as a crucial classroom, helping dogs build and maintain vital socialization skills by teaching them how to read canine body language, respect boundaries, and interact politely with other dogs. Not only do these play sessions give dogs a much-needed mental break, but they also give shelter staff a front-row seat to their true personalities. Seeing how a dog socializes helps matching teams make better, more accurate matches with potential adopters. Plus, there is nothing quite like the morale boost it gives to hardworking volunteers and staff to see these pups just get to be dogs. Honda, Kyrie, Bear, Titan, Angel, and Wallaby had a blast!🐶❤️ #ShelterDogs #DogPlaygroups #DogSocialization #AdoptDontShop #ShelterLife #AnimalWelfare
