Founded in 1978, our mission is to champion the wellbeing of companion animals and strengthen the bond they share with the people who love and need them. We are dedicated to creating a future where every animal receives the care they deserve and every family can keep their cherished pets by their side.
For nearly 50 years, the Humane Society of Charlotte has served as a private, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, relying entirely on the generosity of our community rather than government funding. We strive to build a more compassionate Charlotte, operating with the belief that people make the best decisions for animals when provided with the right resources and kindness.
We approach sheltering with a focus on individual wellbeing, utilizing low-stress handling and enrichment to ensure our animals thrive while they wait for their forever homes. Our Animal Resource Center, opened in 2022, serves as a hub for adoptions, while our clinic services and Pet Help Center provide essential vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, and support programs to keep pets healthy and with their families.
Adopting a pet is an exciting new chapter, and our team is committed to making the process supportive and personal for both you and your new companion. We provide guidance on behavior and medical history to ensure a successful match, helping you feel confident and prepared as you welcome a new friend into your life.
Your future best friend is already waiting to meet you at our shelter. Browse our available animals on our website, or visit us at 1348 Parker Drive in Charlotte to see who is ready to head home with you today.
