Lake Norman Humane is dedicated to our core mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Rehome the pets in need within our community and the surrounding areas. We envision a future where every animal is healthy, happy, and safe in a loving, permanent home.
Why We Are Here
Based in Mooresville, NC, we are a local 501(c)(3) non-profit that operates solely on the generosity of donations and community support. Since our founding, we have focused on serving the animals of the Lake Norman region and the people who care for them by providing a lifeline for pets who have been surrendered or need a fresh start.
How We Help
We work diligently with animal control facilities and rescue partners to provide sanctuary for dogs, cats, and exotic animals. Our pets are cared for in a blend of environments, including our main facility on Charlotte Highway, a dedicated network of foster homes, and our local partner at the Mooresville PetSmart. Every animal receives a thorough behavioral assessment and a medical evaluation by a veterinary technician before they are ready to meet their new family.

9/24 - On Tap Oktoberfest registration now open - Lake Norman Publications
MOORESVILLE – Cornhole competition will take center stage at this year’s Oktoberfest celebration in downtown Mooresville coordinated by On Tap. The sixth annual Bags & Brats Cornhole Tournament – a fundraiser benefiting Lake Norman Humane – will be the featured attraction at the event starting at noon on Saturday, Oct. 10. 7/20 - Animal shelters in crisis: How Mecklenburg is coping
What happens when you can’t turn your pet in at your local shelter? Mecklenburg County residents are facing that reality after the county-run animal shelter said that starting this month, it will only accept stray and lost animals — not pets surrendered by their owners.
10/3 - Oscar will be here until 3:30 today, he’s looking for his forever family and hopeful that somebody will give him the chance that he deserves! He has been thriving in his home, he lives peacefully with dogs, and his goofy personality flourishes when given time to be comfortable. Come by to see him!

10/2 - Rescue is the definition of “it takes a village”, and a village came through today! A HUGE thank-you to Lowe’s, Husqvarna, Scott’s Miracle-Gro, and Stanley Black & Decker for spending the day helping us get our property ready for our upcoming gala! From cleaning up the memorial garden and adding fresh mulch, to pressure washing, trimming bushes, and so much more - you made an incredible difference! They also donated some incredible items for us. We are so grateful for your time, hard work, and generosity. And of course, our pups were happy to supervise (and get LOTS of loving) Thank you for helping make our rescue even better!

10/2 - Andrew’s playful side is blossoming! He loves bounding around the yard with his foster brothers, trying to get his foster dad to throw the ball, and sniffing the fresh air. He would love to join a pack and be a part of a forever family! Fill out a foster inquiry form to meet him!

10/2 - Little moments for Andrew that mean everything for his confidence. Andrew came to us all the way from St. Thomas, where he was found in incredibly rough condition. He was nursed back to health, and found his way to us to gain confidence and help his heart heal. He has been doing that in foster thanks to the assistance of his foster family and his four legged foster brothers. What may seem like normal dog behavior to some, is a huge step for Andrew. If you want to be part of his journey, giving him a chance, working past the initial fear he may show, to gain a priceless treasure; the treasure of helping a dog gain a new life and learn to be who he truly can be, fill out our foster inquiry form. If you give Andrew a chance, you will gain a friend for life, a loyal companion, and you will find how incredibly rewarding giving a dog a chance can be.

9/29 - Meet Chippy, the grumpiest mug but the sweetest soul. Her start hasn’t been kind, but like with every animal that walks through our doors, no matter the reason or what start they had, we are here to show her love, compassion, and that people can be good. We do not own the rights to any music

9/28 - 2 TPLO’s hasn’t slowed Chase down from training, from playing, and certainly not from loving. This big headed goof was a perfect patient during recovery, letting us ice his legs, do his exercises, all while meeting us with kisses. It’s a beautiful thing to see how much love these animals can give despite pain, despite what they come from. Chase is looking for his forever home and hoping despite being a black pitty in the shelter, he finds it soon. Black pitties are some of the least adopted dogs statistically, and we will continue to show you how sweet and deserving Chase is until he finds his forever home. 🖤

9/25 - A new resource for local pets is getting closer to opening its doors. Recently on Good Morning LKN, we were joined by Dana Kelly, Executive Director of Lake Norman Humane (@lknhumane). Dana shared an update on the Giving With Grace Spay/Neuter Clinic, which plans to offer low-cost spay/neuter services, dental surgeries, and assistance for pet owners who may struggle to afford care. She also shared the many ways to support Lake Norman Humane, from volunteering and donating to simply spreading the word. 9/24 - A HUGE thank you to the @loweshomeimprovement QA team for coming by today and spending their morning with us! They worked so incredibly hard, cleaning inside and out, giving lots of love to our animals, & brought so many goodies for us (the animals and the humans!) We 🩷 our volunteers and we 🩷 Lowe’s!

9/23 - Don’t get fooled by the wrinkled nose and a bit of grey creeping in on Gunner’s nose. He is fun-loving, loves a good walk in the park and will be the best companion you’ve ever dreamed of. He walks terrific on leash, is learning basic commands in our Mutts with Manners program and just wants a chance at his forever home. Come say hello at Lake Norman Humane.
