The Avery Humane Society is dedicated to responding humanely to the needs of animals in Avery County. We are a non-profit organization committed to providing a safe, temporary sanctuary for pets in need while preparing them for their forever families.
Since 1978, our community-supported shelter has served as a haven for local animals. Operating as a privately run 501c3 organization, we moved into our current Adoption and Education Center in 2012, which has allowed us to help thousands of animals find new beginnings.
We believe in the dignity of every animal, which is why we provide comprehensive intake care, including vaccinations, micro-chipping, and medical testing. Our shelter features a state-of-the-art facility designed for comfort, including play areas, designated adoption rooms, and a special partnership with the local prison to provide extra training and socialization for our dogs.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we aim to help you find the pet that perfectly aligns with your personality and lifestyle. We are transparent about each animal's history and medical needs, ensuring that you feel confident and fully prepared when you take your new friend home.
We invite you to visit our center in Newland to meet our wonderful animals firsthand. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or simply learn more about our programs, we would love to welcome you into the Avery Humane Society family.
