Feline Urgent Rescue (FUR) of Western North Carolina is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned, abused, and neglected cats. We are driven by a simple yet powerful mission: to eliminate feline homelessness and reduce shelter euthanasia rates in our community.
Founded in 2012 by four friends who saw a critical need, FUR has grown into a vital resource for Western North Carolina. After years of operating out of a local barn, we opened our own cage-free, no-kill, last-chance sanctuary in 2014. Today, we continue our commitment to filling a gap in the local rescue community by providing a safe haven for cats in need.
FUR operates as a private, volunteer-run, cage-free sanctuary where we provide medical care, socialization, and enrichment to over 100 cats. Our dedicated team of volunteers and foster families ensures that every cat receives personalized love and attention, from daily play sessions to essential veterinary services. By managing feral colonies and supporting cat owners in times of need, we strive to keep cats healthy, safe, and happy.
We believe that every cat is adoptable, and we take great care to ensure a lasting, joyful bond between our cats and their new families. Our adoption process is thoughtful and transparent, focusing on setting the right expectations so that each placement leads to a lifelong friendship. We are here to support you in finding the companion who best fits your life and home.
Whether you are looking to adopt, foster a cat in need, or volunteer your time, you are an essential part of our success.
