New Hanover Humane Society
A Legacy of Compassion
The New Hanover Humane Society is a dedicated non-profit animal shelter committed to providing care, shelter, and emergency services to animals in need. We believe every pet deserves the gift of a forever home and the chance to bring joy to a loving family.
Our Community Commitment
Located in the heart of Wilmington at 2405 N. 23rd Street, our organization has served as a beacon for local animals for years. Following recent renovations, we are proud to offer a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for the animals in our care while they wait for their perfect match.
How We Care
We operate a physical shelter facility designed with the well-being of our residents in mind. Our site features two fenced-in exercise yards for dogs and a specialized screened-in cat porch, providing our furry friends with plenty of space to stretch, play, and get to know potential adopters in a relaxed setting.
Your Adoption Journey
We are here to make your experience as smooth and rewarding as possible. We guide prospective adopters through the entire process, ensuring a thoughtful match that supports a lifelong, happy partnership. If you are 20 years or older, we invite you to come in, meet our animals, and begin your journey toward a new family member.
Connect With Us
We would love to see your smiling face! Visit us between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday, to spend time with our animals or learn more about how you can support our mission. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or simply share some joy with our residents, you are always welcome at the New Hanover Humane Society.
