Our Mission
The Summit County Division of Animal Control is dedicated to being a proactive, innovative, and compassionate partner in our community. We strive to provide excellent care for the animals in our charge and ensure responsible enforcement of canine laws to create a safer, more desirable home for all citizens of Summit County.
Providing a Compassionate Start
Since the opening of our state-of-the-art, 19,494 square foot facility in 2010, we have been committed to providing a high-performance, green environment for animals in need. Our department offers temporary shelter for lost and stray dogs, serving as a vital resource for pet owners and the community at large. We are proud of our modern, professional space, which includes an adoption zone, veterinary clinic, and outdoor visiting areas designed for comfort and recovery.
How We Care for Our Animals
We believe in transparency and efficiency in our operations. Every dog that enters our care receives flea treatment, intestinal de-worming, and initial vaccinations, followed by blood work, spay or neuter surgery, and rabies vaccinations upon adoption. Furthermore, all adopted pets are micro-chipped at no additional cost to ensure their safety and help you keep them close to home.

If the dozens of dogs patiently hoping to be adopted from the Summit County Animal Control shelter could talk, they’d all ask the same question: “May I go home with you?” To convince you to answer with a welcoming, “yes!” the Summit County Executive’s Office has reduced the adoption fees to just $28.
