Our Mission
The Ashtabula County Animal Protective League is dedicated to rescuing, healing, and protecting animals in need by providing humane care and safe placement. We strive to provide temporary homes for parent-less pets until we can find them the best possible furever homes.
Who We Are
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit humane society serving Ashtabula County, Ohio. Since our inception, we have remained committed to preventing animal suffering and supporting responsible pet ownership through medical, behavioral, and community support.
Our Care Model
Our shelter provides a safe, caring environment for dogs and cats who are sick, injured, or simply waiting for a fresh start. We operate with a focus on compassion, utilizing both our facility and our dedicated network of fosters to provide animals with the attention they deserve while they prepare for adoption.

10/13 - Meet Sandy! Sandy came to us a little bit ago with her mom and sister, but has been living it up in a foster home for a little over a week now. She's doing great! Here's what her foster has to say about her: "Sweet Sandy is just a puppy, 8 months old, and is hoping to become part of a family soon. She had limited human socialization before coming to the shelter so she's initially shy until you win her trust. She has made great friends with shelter staff and is now learning to trust her foster mom. Here are some observations made so far: 🐾Very good in a crate 🐾Has been good with the resident dog and cat 🐾Enjoys hanging out in the yard 🐾Likes chewing pig ears 🐾Housebroken (has been closely monitored) 🐾Took treats gently and accepted pets from a 5 year old child 🐾Gets yard zoomies We think Sandy would REALLY like a playful canine companion. The shelter opens at noon Tuesday but you can submit your application online anytime and arrangements will be made with Sandy's foster mom. "

10/10 - A true royal, King is looking for a new palace to call home. 👑🐾 King is quite a playful pup and is particularly fond of his hard toys. He'd do best as the sole ruler of his kingdom with plenty to do to keep him occupied. While King loves to play, he tires out easily and prefers shorter, peaceful walks. 10/3 - Meet Stella! 🐶🐾 Stella is a petite two year old mixed breed girl at just 35lbs. Stella is currently in foster, and has shown herself to be a very loving, loyal, and gentle pup. She gets along with everyone and even loves to play with her foster's resident dog. If you're looking for an affectionate friend to share plenty of love and kisses with, Stella is your girl. 9/26 - Meet Goldilocks! 🐾 Goldilocks is just 5 months old and is hoping to find a brand new furever home to grow up in. At just 5.5lbs, she's a small girl, but she has a huge heart. As you can see, Goldilocks loves to get all of the attention that she can get, and is all about head scratches. 9/24 - Meet Angus! 🐶🐾 Angus was lucky enough to go on a little vacation with a shelter friend. He had a fantastic time outside of the shelter, and his friend learned a lot about him. Here's what she observed during that time: "Angus is an amazing dog. I really enjoyed our time together. He has a contagious zest for life. He finds joy in going for hikes in the woods, chewing sticks, walks around the neighborhood (needs a bit more training with his leash manners) and playing tug (he always wins). But he truly is a lover of the good ol' classic BALL. He's got serious skills when it comes to catching the ball. And he would probably play fetch forever if you let him. He should make a commercial for the Chuckit! brand. Angus is housebroken. The first night he willingly went in the crate and slept all night with no fussing. He's well behaved and calm in the car. He got along fine with my senior small breed female dog. (He's not so good with cats, though.)" 9/19 - Hi, I'm Cashmere, a striking 3-year-old tortoiseshell with a heart as soft as my name! 🧡 I'm petite at 7.5 pounds, with distinctive orange markings on my forehead and left cheek — plus an adorable underbite that makes me extra special. I'm VERY shy at first, but if you give me plenty of time to warm up to you, I will be a BEAUTIFUL addition to your home. I would probably do fine in a home with other cats, but should not be in a loud home with small children or dogs. I love nothing more than cuddling on a soft blanket or bed, and a little treat never hurts! 😸 I may not be the most outgoing cat, but I'm already ready to be your gentle companion.
