Since 1912, the Ross County Humane Society has been dedicated to the welfare, shelter, and placement of animals, while working to prevent cruelty and overpopulation through education and compassionate action.
As an independent, nonprofit organization, we are governed by a community-based Board of Directors and rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters. We do not receive funding from the Humane Society of the United States or any federal or state government sources; instead, we thrive thanks to your donations, fundraisers, and grants.
Our work at our shelter in Chillicothe is focused on providing a safe, temporary home for dogs while we prepare them for their forever families. We are proud to operate on a model that does not euthanize for space, treating every animal that comes into our care as an individual with a unique story.
We believe in an Adopters Welcome approach that prioritizes a personal, conversational experience over lengthy applications. By taking the time to meet our residents in person, you ensure the best possible match for your household and lifestyle, making the adoption process a truly joyful partnership.
We invite you to join us in making a difference for the animals in our community. Whether you choose to adopt a new family member, volunteer your time, or contribute to our life-saving programs, your support is the heartbeat of our organization.
