Animal Friends Humane Society

Our Mission

Animal Friends Humane Society is dedicated to promoting humane principles, protecting lost, homeless, abandoned, and mistreated animals, and acting as passionate advocates for animals in our communities. We are committed to giving every animal that comes through our doors a second chance at a happy life.

Our History and Community

Established in 1952, we are proud to be Butler County’s largest and oldest non-profit animal shelter. In 2009, we moved into our current 22,500-square-foot facility in Hamilton, Ohio, which allows us to provide top-notch care for the more than 5,000 animals that arrive at our doors each year.

How We Care for Our Animals

We operate by adopting nationally recognized best practices to maintain high live release rates and ensure every animal receives individual attention. Our care extends beyond our walls through programs like our foster network, pet food pantry, and trap-neuter-return initiatives, all designed to keep pets healthy and supported.

Finding Your Perfect Match

Our dedicated staff works hard to get to know each animal's personality, which helps us advise you on the best fit for your home and family. We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to support you in finding a new best friend who will thrive in your care.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We rely on the generosity of our community to continue our lifesaving work. We invite you to visit our facility in Hamilton to meet our wonderful adoptable pets or check out our upcoming events to see how you can get involved. Whether you adopt, volunteer, or donate, your support directly changes lives.

10/13 - 💔🐾 14 Years Old… and Waiting for Someone to Love Her. 🐾💔 Meet Lizzie. 🥹❤️ At 14 years old and just 37 pounds, this sweet senior girl should be spending her golden years curled up on a soft bed, surrounded by love, and knowing she is home. Instead, Lizzie is still waiting for someone to choose her. 💔 Lizzie is an incredibly sweet girl who does well with other dogs. She's more of a coexister, perfectly happy to share her space without needing a playmate. At her age, Lizzie isn't asking for much. Just a warm place to sleep, a gentle hand to pet her, and someone who will love her for whatever time she has left. Please don't let her age be the reason you pass her by. Senior dogs have so much love left to give, and Lizzie deserves to know what it feels like to be someone's everything. ❤️ ❤️ LIZZIE'S ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED! ❤️ Thanks to a generous sponsor, all you need to pay is the required Butler County dog license! 🐾 Animal Friends Humane Society 📍 1820 Princeton Rd., Hamilton, OH 45011 📞 513-867-5727

10/12 - 🐾❤️ DOG DATE CHRONICLES: DEUCE! ❤️🐾 Deuce enjoyed a fun-filled adventure outside the shelter with one of our wonderful volunteers, and he was quite the gentleman! Deuce wasted no time hopping right into the SUV all by himself! First up was a hamburger, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He can get a little excited when taking treats, but with a gentle reminder to "go easy," he does pretty well! Next stop was the park! 🌳 Deuce spent about 30 minutes running around, exploring, and doing his own thing. Fetch? Not really his style! He was much more interested in checking out his surroundings. He doesn't seem to know many commands just yet, although he gets "sit" right sometimes! After a while, Deuce decided he'd had enough exercise and settled down by the fence. So off they went to Menards! Deuce walked through the store with ease, passing shoppers without any issues. He even met a young boy around 8 years old and gently accepted pets. Such a good boy! Overall, Deuce was the perfect gentleman! ❤️ He enjoyed his hamburger, some freedom to explore, and a little shopping adventure. He's a sweet boy who would love a family to continue making memories with! Could Deuce be your next adventure buddy? 🐶💜 📍 Animal Friends Humane Society 1820 Princeton Rd., Hamilton, OH www.animalfriendshs.org

10/7 - Meet Jean Jean | 3 years old | 56 lbs If you’ve ever wanted a little koala of your very own, Jean might just be your girl! With her one-of-a-kind looks and adorable expression, Jean is truly a unique beauty—and her sweet personality makes her even more special. Jean is currently enjoying life in a foster home, where she has been an absolute delightful guest. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loves nothing more than cuddling up with her people. She sleeps wonderfully through the night, is housebroken and crate trained, and she absolutely loves going for car rides. Jean does have one important thing she wants her future family to understand: she is a little timid around men. She feels most comfortable with women and will need a patient family who understands that trust takes time. If men are in the home or visiting, they should give Jean plenty of space and allow her to approach them on her own terms when she feels safe and ready. No pressure—just patience, kindness, and letting Jean set the pace. Once Jean feels safe with you, you’ll discover what her foster family already knows: she is the best girl with so much love to give. Please contact the shelter for a meetup. www.animalfriendshs.org

10/6 - 🐾🚗 DOG DATE CHRONICLES: ZIYA! 🚗🐾 Seven-year-old Ziya, weighing in at 68 pounds, headed out for a dog date—and this sweet girl had some energy! ❤️ Ziya jumped into the car with ease, but car rides seem to make her a little anxious. So her volunteer decided to skip any extra stops and head straight to the dog park. As soon as they arrived, Ziya was READY to get out and have some fun! She spent about 45 minutes running around and exploring. 🎾 She especially enjoyed playing fetch, chasing after the ball at full speed…and sometimes even remembering to bring it back. 😂 When she wasn’t chasing a ball, Ziya loved rolling around in the grass and scratching her back on the ground. She definitely knew how to enjoy her afternoon! Ziya allowed pets and handling all over and especially enjoyed some good butt scratches! She’s playful, active, affectionate, and definitely still has plenty of pep in her step! 🐶❤️ Another successful dog date for a very deserving girl! Come meet her in person! 1820 Princeton Road Hamilton, Ohio www.animalfriendshs.org
