The Toledo Humane Society leads the community in efforts focused on relieving the suffering of, preventing cruelty to, and providing for the humane treatment of animals. We are committed to creating an educated, caring, and responsible community where the welfare of every animal is a priority.
As the state's oldest animal welfare organization, we have proudly served the Toledo area since 1884. We operate independently, receiving no government or national humane society funding, which allows us to stay deeply rooted and responsive to the specific needs of our local community.
We care for nearly 5,000 animals each year by providing temporary shelter, medical treatment, and rehabilitation. Our dedicated team uses a combination of onsite shelter facilities and a network of foster families to ensure every animal receives the compassionate care and attention they deserve while awaiting their forever homes.
We believe every adoption is a unique and special event. Our adoption counselors work closely with you during your visit to match the right pet to your lifestyle, ensuring a lasting bond between you and your new companion. We take pride in the fact that each animal receives a medical exam, vaccines, a microchip, and spay or neuter surgery before heading home with you.
Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or simply learn more about responsible pet ownership, we invite you to get involved. Please visit our adoption center in Maumee to meet our adoptable dogs, cats, and pocket pets, or explore our website to see how you can help us create a brighter, more loving future for animals in need.
