The Portage Animal Protective League is dedicated to the advancement of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership by sheltering and finding safe, loving homes for injured, abused, surrendered, and abandoned animals.
Since our founding as a grassroots organization in 1955, we have served as the first nonprofit humane organization in Portage County. Today, we continue that legacy by upholding animal cruelty laws, reducing pet overpopulation through spay and neuter programs, and educating our community on the importance of social responsibility in pet care.
As a private, non-profit, limited access, no time limit shelter, we provide a safe haven for animals for as long as it takes to find them the right home. Our dedicated team and facility on Infirmary Road in Ravenna are fully funded through the generous support of our community, enabling us to provide necessary immunizations, medical treatments, and spay/neuter surgeries to every animal in our care.
We believe that adopting a pet is a joyful, life-changing journey, and our goal is to help you find the right match for your family. By providing behavior evaluations and spending time getting to know each animal’s unique personality, our staff works to ensure that every transition into a new home is successful and rewarding for both you and your new companion.
Whether you are looking to find your furever friend, volunteer your time, or support our mission, there are many ways to get involved. We invite you to view our available pets, fill out an adoption application, or visit our website to learn more about our upcoming events and how you can help us give these wonderful animals a fresh start.
