Shelby County Animal Shelter
A Dedicated Haven for Our Community
The Shelby County Animal Shelter is committed to serving our local residents and their animal companions with professionalism and care. Operated by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, we strive to ensure a safe environment for stray dogs while providing a welcoming space for those seeking to find a new best friend.
Serving Shelby County
Since our establishment, we have served as the designated facility for housing stray dogs within Shelby County, ensuring that animal-related concerns are handled in a timely and responsible manner. We believe that by enforcing the Ohio Revised Code, we help create a better, safer community for both the pets who reside here and the people who care for them.
Our Care Model
Our facility serves as a central hub where we care for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens. While we are the designated facility for stray dogs, we also welcome animals from owners when space allows. Our dedicated staff provides initial vaccinations for the animals in our care, working hard to keep everyone healthy while they await their forever families.
Your Adoption Journey
Adoption is a joyful commitment, and we are here to guide you through the process. By requiring an application and approval process, we ensure that every pet finds a suitable and loving home environment. We encourage all adopters to schedule a wellness check with their own veterinarian as soon as possible, as we believe a strong relationship with your vet is the foundation of a healthy life for your new companion.
