Paws Animal Shelter
Our Mission
Paws Animal Shelter is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on rescuing and providing a safe, nurturing haven for cats and kittens in need. Our goal is to promote animal welfare and find loving forever homes for every feline that comes through our doors.
Our Story
Our roots trace back to 1977 with the Champaign County Humane Association, which originally relied on foster homes. After opening our shelter in 1991, we chose to transition into a cat-only facility in 2018 to address the desperate need for specialized feline shelter space in our rural community. Thanks to a generous donation in 2021, we expanded our facility, allowing us to rescue even more cats and kittens than ever before.
Our Care Model
We believe every cat deserves to thrive, which is why our dedicated staff and volunteers provide comprehensive medical care, rehabilitation, and socialization. By offering a safe environment, we focus on the individual physical and emotional needs of every cat to ensure they are healthy, happy, and fully prepared for their future families. Each resident receives vaccinations, spay or neuter services, and specialized attention during their time with us.
Building Forever Bonds
Adopting a pet is a long-term, 15–20 year commitment, and we believe in making thoughtful, lasting matches between cats and their new families. We guide our adopters through a careful matching process to ensure a stable, harmonious, and fulfilling relationship for both the cat and their new guardian. Our commitment to you continues post-adoption as we strive to create deep, meaningful bonds that last a lifetime.
