Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter - CCAS
Finding Your Next Best Friend
At the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, our mission is to help every dog find their next four-legged family member. We are dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming environment where connections are made and new friendships begin.
Supporting Our Community
As an official government organization, we serve the residents of Cuyahoga County by providing essential care and resources for local dogs. We believe in the power of responsible pet ownership, which is why we emphasize the importance of licensing and microchipping as vital tools to ensure lost pets make it safely back home.
How We Care for Our Dogs
We operate out of our facility in Valley View, where our dedicated team works daily to support our animals through various programs and enrichment activities. One of our most exciting initiatives is Dogs Day Out, which invites the community to take our shelter dogs out for an afternoon of fun, helping them gain confidence and increase their visibility for potential adopters.
Building Lifelong Bonds
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to support you in finding the perfect match for your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a hiking companion or a quiet housemate, we invite you to explore our available dogs and learn more about our adoption process. We are committed to transparency and providing all the information you need to make an informed, happy decision for your family.
Join Our Mission
There are many ways to get involved, from volunteering your time and participating in events like our annual Jog for Dogs, to supporting our enrichment efforts through our Amazon Wish List. We invite you to visit us at our Sweet Valley Drive location or connect with us online to see how you can help us continue our vital work.

10/9 - Remember Goulash? He’s one of Miracle’s newest Board & Train dogs! After spending time at Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, Goulash is working through some challenging behaviors to help improve his chances of finding a forever home. One of his first challenges we have stated to tackled is getting into the car. He started out hesitant, but with patient and guidance (and of course rewards), he began climbing in on his own! Small wins like this can make a big difference. Follow along with Goulash’s training journey as he builds confidence and works toward his next chapter. #shelterdogtraining #carconfidence #dogtraining

10/7 - Meet Goulash, one of the newest Board & Trains at Miracle K9! Goulash has spent quite a bit of time at @cuyahogadogs , and some difficult behaviors have made finding his next home more challenging. He’s a big, happy guy who can get overstimulated pretty quickly. He struggles with impulse control around food and toys, gets overly excited with affection, pulls on leash, and has previously shown leash-biting behavior when being handled. So the focus here is teaching him how to settle, improving on his leash skills, building better impulse control, and helping him regulate his arousal in stressful situations. Training like this can make shelter and foster life easier while giving dogs like Goulash a more confidence and a better chance at finding a happy life in a new home. Follow along with Goulash’s training journey!

9/27 - Roxie is a 4.5-year-old Hound mix who’s equal parts adventure buddy and professional couch potato! 🐶💕 She loves walks (30-45 min 👌), sniffing trails, zooming around the yard, and soaking up the sunshine ☀️🌿 — but she’s just as happy snoozing on the couch afterward. 🛋️💤 Roxie is playful with other dogs, but she would most likely prefer to be the only pet in her forever home so she can soak up all the attention. ❤️ She’d love a fenced yard to stretch her legs, or access to a nearby fenced area. 🏡 She’s food-motivated, knows sit and come, and will even bring you her leash when she needs to go outside! 🦴🦮 Thunderstorms are NOT her favorite ⛈️, but patience and cuddles help! If you’re looking for a loyal, silly, active best friend with plenty of personality, Roxie might be your girl! 🐾💗 #cuyahogadogs #instadog #adoptdontshop #rescuedogs #roxie
