Fayette Humane Society

Our Mission

The Fayette Regional Humane Society is a dedicated sanctuary of compassion, committed to promoting and protecting the welfare of domestic animals. We strive to honor the special bond between humans and their animal companions every single day.

Our History and Purpose

Established in 1979, we have served as a steadfast beacon of hope for animals in need for over four decades. As an independent, non-governmental organization, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community and the passion of our volunteers to serve Fayette, Clinton, Highland, and Ross counties.

How We Care

We believe every animal deserves a healthy, happy life, which is why we provide comprehensive care for those who come through our doors. Every adoptable animal receives a thorough health check, spay or neuter surgery, essential vaccinations, and careful socialization. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that each pet is evaluated for their unique personality before finding their perfect forever home.

Your Partner in Adoption

Adoption is a joyful journey, and we are here to help you find the perfect match for your family. By choosing to adopt, you become a hero for an animal who has been waiting for a second chance at happiness. Our high live-release rate reflects our unwavering commitment to the animals we serve and the families we unite.

Join Our Family

We invite you to visit our facility in Washington Court House or browse our available cats, dogs, and small animals online to find your new best friend. Your support helps us continue our life-saving work, whether you choose to adopt, volunteer, or simply spread the word about our mission. Together, we can build a more compassionate world where every companion animal finds the loving home they deserve.

10/13 - Good morning from our cats and kittens! Some were happy to say hello, one decided the camera was a little too much, and another wasn't quite ready for the morning greetings. 😂 We think they all did pretty well in their own way! #FayetteRegionalHumane

10/8 - Kisses get hisses, but hisses get more kisses! Abby, our Animal Health Technician, was ready to give Wynona some love and kisses… but Wynona had other plans! 😂🐱 Apparently, Wynona was in the mood for hisses, not kisses! 😾❤️ Isn’t Wynona so cute, even when she’s telling Abby to back off? 😂💕 #FayetteRegionalHumane

10/8 - Sometimes, you just have to stop on your way out. 🐾 As one of our FRHS team members was heading down the hall this evening, he happened to look over and saw this cute little face peeking through the cage bars. Franklin Paws was apparently not ready for bedtime just yet! So, a quick peek-a-boo session was in order… followed by some well-deserved head scratches. ❤️🐱 Because sometimes the best part of the day is an unexpected hello from a little face waiting to be noticed. #FayetteRegionalHumane

10/7 - After a long evening of TNR trapping, Humane Agent Brad Adams ended up sitting on the floor in a dark cat room, playing with Harley before locking up the shelter and leaving. 😂 In the video, you’ll see Brad gently reaching toward Harley while she swats back at him with her paws. 🐾 Don’t worry—this isn’t aggression or a cat with an attitude. Harley is simply playing and interacting with Brad in her own funny little way. Sometimes the best moments happen when you least expect them! ❤️ #FayetteRegionalHumane

9/25 - 🐾 Help Tippy & Teter Get Their Paws Under Them! Tippy and Teter have Wobbler’s Syndrome after their mom was infected with panleukopenia during the final third of her pregnancy, affecting their ability to walk. They’re working hard in physical therapy and slowly improving. ❤️ Will you help us provide the therapy they need to keep making progress? Every donation helps! #FayetteRegionalHumane

9/18 - Another 14 community cats are headed home! Our Humane Agents trapped 14 more cats for TNR, where they were spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped, and returned to their caregiver properties. That brings our total to 166 community cats TNR’d and returned in Fayette County through our efforts. This work takes a team. Thank you to our dedicated Humane Agents, Animal Care, Animal Health, and Animal Support teams, along with our incredible surgery team and our Community Cat Guardians who provide food, shelter, and ongoing care for these cats. And thank you to the Bissell Pet Foundation for helping make this work possible. #FayetteRegionalHumane
