Crossed Paws Animal Shelter is a community-driven, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare, sheltering, and placement of animals in Monroe County. We strive to address animal overpopulation while educating our neighbors on the humane treatment of all living creatures.
Established in 2001 as the Monroe County Humane Society, we began our journey without a physical facility, relying on a small network of foster homes. Thanks to the generosity of the Cogar family, we secured land in 2004, which allowed us to build our first shelter and eventually expand into the fully functioning facility we operate today.
We are proud to be entirely volunteer-run and operate without monetary support from state, federal, or local entities. All proceeds from our fundraisers, membership fees, and donations go directly back into the shelter to cover food, medical expenses, and essential daily care for our residents.
Every animal in our care is here because of the dedication of our volunteers who provide safety and love until they find their perfect forever homes. We believe that thoughtful matching helps create a lifelong, joyful partnership between pets and their human companions. By choosing to adopt, you become a vital part of our mission to improve the lives of local animals.
We invite you to experience the warmth of our community and meet the wonderful animals waiting to become part of your family. Please visit our available animals page to see our current residents or contact us at 740-934-2693 with any questions. We are so grateful for your support and for joining us on this journey of compassion, advocacy, and love.
