The Wayne County Humane Society is dedicated to finding committed, permanent homes for companion animals while measurably reducing overpopulation through education and community outreach.
Since our founding by community members in 1973, we have served as an independent, non-profit animal shelter located in Wooster, Ohio. We are deeply grateful to the local donors, volunteers, and businesses whose support allows us to continue our vital, lifesaving work without government funding.
As a limited-intake facility, we provide a safe, nurturing environment for companion animals, including cats, dogs, and small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs. We prioritize quality veterinary care, including spay/neuter services, to ensure every animal is prepared for their transition into a loving home. Our compassionate team is committed to the well-being of our residents, ensuring they receive the care and enrichment they deserve while awaiting their forever families.
When you choose to adopt from WCHS, you are not just getting a new best friend; you are supporting a mission of humane values and animal welfare. We work hard to create successful, lasting matches and rely on our community to help us say yes to more animals in need. Your commitment to a rescue animal completes the cycle of care that our shelter staff and volunteers work so hard to provide.
Ready to meet your new companion? We invite you to view our adoptable animals, complete an application, or visit us in Wooster to schedule a meet-and-greet. Whether through adoption, volunteering, or donating, you can make a hands-on difference for the homeless pets in our community today.
