Animal Charity of Ohio

A Heart for Every Animal

Animal Charity of Ohio is dedicated to being a voice for our community’s companion animals, providing compassionate care and finding loving homes for those in need. As the only humane society in Mahoning County, we work tirelessly to ensure every animal receives the respect and protection they deserve.

Our Story and Our Mission

Founded in 1963 by Dr. Jean and Perc Kelty in their own garage, our organization began as a grassroots effort to help abandoned and neglected animals. Today, we continue that legacy with the same passion, having evolved into a full-service organization that provides high-quality, affordable medical care to keep pets in their homes and out of harm's way.

Care in Our New Home

In 2024, we opened our expansive, 22,000-square-foot facility in Boardman, which allows us to provide a safe, modern environment for over 200 animals at a time. Our dedicated team of professionals, including veterinarians, trainers, and canine managers, works daily to rehabilitate each animal, providing the socialization and enrichment they need to thrive while awaiting their next chapter.

The Joy of Finding Your Best Friend

We believe that adoption is a partnership built on trust, and our adoption coordinators are committed to making the perfect match for both you and your new family member. Because we know the histories of the animals in our care, our thoughtful application and matching process ensures that every placement is set up for a lifetime of success and happiness.

Join Us in Saving Lives

Are you ready to find your new best friend? We invite you to view our available pets online or visit us to meet the animals currently looking for their forever homes. Whether you choose to adopt, volunteer, or support our veterinary clinic, your involvement helps us continue our lifesaving mission for generations to come.
