Our Mission
Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward is dedicated to the safe refuge and compassionate care of stray, homeless, owner-surrendered, neglected, and abused animals. We strive to foster a culture of kindness, empathy, and responsible stewardship through teamwork, collaboration, community education, and outreach.
Who We Are
Since 2022, we have been operating out of our new Animal Care and Community Education Centre in Belleville. As a community-focused organization, we are not government-funded, relying instead on the generosity of our supporters to provide medical care, shelter, and essential services to animals in need across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
Our Approach to Care
We are a team of paid professionals, including veterinary assistants and technologists, who ensure our animals receive the highest quality of care. We are committed to a low-kill philosophy, where euthanasia is strictly a last resort reserved for cases of severe medical distress or extreme aggression that poses a risk to public safety. Every animal in our care receives personalized attention, including vaccinations, microchipping, and mandatory spay or neuter surgeries to help control overpopulation.

10/17 - 🐾 Jazzy’s Dog Day Out! 🐾 Our adoptable German Shepherd, Jazzy, had the best day visiting the Paws for a Cause Pet Event hosted by @waupoosestateswinery and @canpetinc. She enjoyed a tractor ride, made new friends - both canine and human - and showed everyone what a wonderful, well-mannered girl she is. 💕 The day featured fantastic vendors, agility demonstrations, delicious food and Pet Tails wine with a portion of sales supporting animal shelters.💗 A special thank-you to our nutrition partners @nutrience_ , for helping keep Jazzy in excellent health while she waits for her forever family. Digital Team: We're on it! 🤣 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁 & 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 🐾 We are so grateful for the donations we receive from our amazing community. Your generosity helps us provide comfort, enrichment, and care to the animals who rely on us every day. ✅ Items we love: • Wet canned pet food (we use hundreds of tins per month) • Towels (they're durable and easy to wash) • Pet toys in excellent condition • Non-clumping Cat Litter • Paper towels & Heavy Duty Garbage Bags • Your empties 🍾 🚫 Please do not bring: • Pillows • Fitted sheets • Items with buttons or zippers (choking hazzard!) • Retractable leashes Unfortunately, when we're unable to use donated items, we must find other ways to dispose of them, which takes time and resources away from animal care.
